It is clear that the Netherlands must become more sustainable. According to the Climate Agreement, our energy supply must be virtually sustainable and CO2 neutral by 2050. But how do we ensure sufficient generation of renewable energy with the limited area we have in our small country? GroenLeven realizes with various entrepreneurs energy sources on roofs, greenhouses, parking lots, landfills, industrial sites and water. ‘Double function’ we call it. Combining solar energy and (soft) fruits, “agri-PV”, is such an innovative double function.

GroenLeven places semi-transparent solar panels above the crops, which allow sufficient light to pass through. This way the crops get enough sunlight and can develop in a regular way, while they get better protection against the increasingly extreme weather conditions. Think of hail or extreme heat; the temperature is more stable under solar panels than under traditional plastic arches. We therefore call this innovative arrangement crop support facility 2.0. Applying and removing plastic or foil every year is a thing of the past.

Do you also grow raspberries, red or blueberries, blackberries or strawberries? Then we would like to get in touch with you. Also for other fruits like cherries, apples and pears GroenLeven is developing a technical solar solution for which a pilot will start in 2021.
